About the creator...
The Midwest Crime Files is a true crime podcast and blog that was launched on January 16th, 2021, by Gina Westfall (Gina Glaub at that time with her former husband). Gina was born and raised in southern Illinois. Growing up, true crime cases always interested Gina. As an adult, her interests in the genre continued through reading and watching true crime television. Then, some personal experiences with crime touched the lives of people close to Gina. This fueled her interest in the criminal justice system and true crime stories, particularly those that happen in small towns like the one in which she was raised and is raising her own children. Gina wanted to construct a blog and podcast that highlights cases based in the Midwest, typically thought of as America’s heartland, where many people naively believe heinous crimes do not occur like they do in the city. Murder happens everywhere. Even in our small, safe communities. The goal in highlighting these cases is to facilitate understanding, recognize warning signs, and promote early interventions to prevent abuse and violence. It is never the intention to exploit the very real pain and suffering of the victims of crimes. Whenever possible, Gina attempts to collaborate with family members of the victim.
